六四纪念活动即将举行：缅怀遇难者，守护历史真相June 4 Memorial Event to Be Held Soon: Remembering the Victims and Defending Historical Truth

中国民主进步联盟宣布，六四纪念活动即将举行。我们将联合各个反对中国共产党专制统治的组织，在中国驻澳大利亚悉尼总领事馆门前举行和平抗议与纪念活动，以缅怀一九八九年民主运动中的遇难者，并继续呼吁国际社会关注中国的人权、自由与法治问题。

The China Democracy Progressive Alliance announces that a June 4 memorial event will be held soon. We will join with organizations opposing the Chinese Communist Party’s authoritarian rule to hold a peaceful protest and memorial event outside the Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney, Australia, to remember the victims of the 1989 democracy movement and continue calling international attention to human rights, freedom, and the rule of law in China.

六四背景 / Background of June 4

一九八九年春天，北京及中国多地出现大规模学生与市民运动。参与者提出反腐败、新闻自由、政治改革、民主参与和法治建设等诉求。随着运动扩大，天安门广场成为当时公共表达与社会关注的中心。

In the spring of 1989, large-scale student and citizen movements emerged in Beijing and other parts of China. Participants called for anti-corruption efforts, freedom of the press, political reform, democratic participation, and rule of law. As the movement expanded, Tiananmen Square became a center of public expression and social attention.

一九八九年六月三日至四日夜间，中国当局动用军队和武力清场，造成大量平民伤亡。具体死亡人数至今仍缺乏公开、独立和完整的调查结果。此后，六四长期成为中国大陆被严格审查和压制的历史议题。

During the night of June 3 to June 4, 1989, the Chinese authorities used troops and military force to clear the area, causing many civilian casualties. The exact death toll still lacks a public, independent, and complete investigation. Since then, June 4 has remained a heavily censored and suppressed historical issue in mainland China.

历史后果 / Consequences

六四的后果并不只停留在一九八九年。三十多年过去，遇难者家属仍未得到应有的公开道歉、真相调查和责任追究；许多亲历者、纪念者、研究者和维权人士也持续面临压力。对六四的审查与遗忘政策，反映了专制权力对历史记忆和公共讨论的控制。

The consequences of June 4 did not end in 1989. More than three decades later, victims’ families have still not received a public apology, truth investigation, or accountability; many witnesses, commemorators, researchers, and rights defenders continue to face pressure. The censorship and enforced forgetting surrounding June 4 reflect authoritarian control over historical memory and public discussion.

中国民主进步联盟认为，正视六四不是为了延续仇恨，而是为了让悲剧不再重演；不是为了撕裂社会，而是为了在真相基础上实现真正的和解。一个真正走向文明、法治与现代化的国家，必须有勇气面对自己的历史。

The CDPA believes that confronting June 4 is not about perpetuating hatred, but about preventing tragedy from happening again; it is not about dividing society, but about achieving genuine reconciliation on the basis of truth. A country truly moving toward civilization, rule of law, and modernity must have the courage to face its own history.

我们的呼吁 / Our Appeal

我们呼吁中国当局公开六四真相，停止打压遇难者家属、亲历者和纪念者，允许公众自由悼念与讨论，并推动对相关历史责任的公开调查和制度性反思。

We call on the Chinese authorities to disclose the truth about June 4, stop suppressing victims’ families, witnesses, and those who commemorate the event, allow the public to mourn and discuss freely, and promote open investigation and institutional reflection regarding historical responsibility.

我们也呼吁海外华人社群继续守护记忆，向年轻一代讲述真实历史，让自由的火种在沉默中不被熄灭。纪念六四，是为了纪念逝者，也是为了提醒后来者：人的尊严、自由和权利不应被任何权力任意践踏。

We also call on overseas Chinese communities to continue preserving memory and telling the younger generation the truth of history, so that the flame of freedom is not extinguished by silence. To commemorate June 4 is to remember the dead, and also to remind future generations that human dignity, freedom, and rights must not be arbitrarily trampled by any power.

中国民主进步联盟将继续与所有追求自由、民主、人权与法治的人们站在一起，反对遗忘，反对恐惧，反对专制。愿历史终有真相，愿逝者得到安息，愿中国终有自由。

The China Democracy Progressive Alliance will continue to stand with all those who pursue freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. We oppose forgetting, fear, and authoritarianism. May history one day receive truth, may the deceased rest in peace, and may China one day be free.
